September 10, 2020: Return to School Update

September 10, 2020: Return to School – Update: – Remember, tomorrow is an eLearning Day – Smart Start

Looking ahead and planning is important. It is the reason we were able to open school on time, in-person, and have been able to remain open. We also know that planning even further into the future is critical and will help ensure that Gower continues to be a destination district. We’ve been doing that! The proposed addition at Gower West is a good example of looking far ahead and preparing for the future.

Please visit our Campus Projects and Referendum page to see what we have planned for Gower West.

This project will be on the ballot Nov. 3rd and we want to make sure our community is informed.

By YOU continuing to do YOUR part, WE can keep doing OUR part

  • We have had TWO (2) known positive cases since we started school on Aug. 21st
  • Various students and staff have gone/stayed home with COVID-19-like symptoms, or as a Close Contact to a known COVID-19 case, and have followed protocol for a safe return to school or work
    • Important note: IDPH Exclusion Guidance is expected to be updated in the coming days to allow the return from quarantine to be managed at the school level as they have been in Gower
    • Our Confirmation of Quarantine Completion Form has been added in response
  • Our Smart Start approach to reopening school will continue next week as scheduled with:
    • Gower West: 2nd grade will begin their full day schedule next week, Monday, Sept. 14th, and will continue in full-day until further notice
      • We plan for 1st grade to begin their full day schedule on Monday, Sept. 21st
        • 1st grade will follow the ED‘e’ schedule next week
      • PreK and Kindergarten will continue to follow their half-day schedule to allow our youngest learners more time to adjust (current schedules are under review)
    • Gower Middle: We plan for 6th-8th grade to begin their full day schedule on Mon., Sept. 21st
      • 6th-8th grade will follow the ED‘e’ schedule next week
    • School Principals will share more detailed information in their Weekly Updates and will be sure to include grade-specific schedule and lunch information for those transitioning to a full day schedule
  • Local area school districts have visited Gower to prepare for their own return to in-person plans
  • Be sure to visit our Return to School webpage for reference materials related to our reopening plan
  • Stay home if you are sick & be mindful of the 3W’s: Wash your hands-Wear your mask-Watch your distance
  • Public health conditions and guidance may change and could cause a change to our plan

With the Gower Greeting,

Victor Simon III
